Remittances

Remittances reflects on the connections that migrants maintain through the letters, money, and parcels sent across borders.

Mixed Media Assemblage

16 x 22 x 4 inches | Custom Framed

2026

This piece highlights one of migration’s quieter realities: the desire to support those who remain behind. Newly arrived packages filled with currencies from different nations transform this imagined interior into a reflection on the countless exchanges that bind families across national boundaries—an essential part of the global movement of people.

The framed vintage stamps reveal how nations choose to represent themselves through carefully selected images of their history, culture, wildlife, and achievements. Used to send letters and parcels home, those same stamps become quiet witnesses to the connections migrants maintain across borders.

A cancelled stamp in the upper right transforms the entire assemblage into a postcard, suggesting that the work itself has completed the same journey as the letters and packages it depicts.

Remittances reminds us that migration is measured not only in miles traveled, but also in the relationships that continue across continents.
