Nature Tamed and Untamed

Mixed Media Assemblage | 8 x 14 x 4 inches | Custom Framed

A miniature landscape vignette that meditates on encroachment, adaptation, and the illusion of stability.

As humans reshape the land, wildlife is pushed to the margins. Here, a lone wolf stands among leafless trees in a transition zone that sustains neither wilderness nor settlement.

To the right, stylized succulents rest on orderly stands — chosen for décor rather than ecology — signaling how domestic taste overwrites habitat. To the left, a strategically placed oyster shell suggests the mouth of a den; its deep purple interior reads as passage at first, but closer inspection reveals a blocked opening — a quiet metaphor for construction denying return.

Arcing around the shell, a necklace segment of freshwater pearls, Murano glass, and shell is beautiful yet unmistakably human-made — underscoring the tension between nature and artifice.

Blending environmental art and animal art, this contemporary narrative assemblage invites reflection on habitat loss, human impact, and the fragile balance beween the build and the wild.

Materials: Freshwater pearls, Murano glass, shell, realistic wolf model, found object (oyster shell), acrylic paint, dollhouse miniatures, diorama flora, wire, fabric, paper

Framing: Custom shadow box with museum glass in a deep silver wooden frame, created in collaboration with Chevy Chase Art Gallery, Washington, DC.
